Nonesuch Records releases Portuguese singer Mariza’s newest album, Mundo, in the United States on September 9, 2016. The album’s opening track, “Rio de Mágoa,” can now be heard below and may be downloaded instantly with pre-orders of the album on iTunes and in the Nonesuch Store. The song is a classic fado that establishes who Mariza is and where she came from. The release of “Rio de Mágoa” follows the release of another album track, “Maldição,” which is also included with pre-orders.
Mundo, which is the Portuguese word for “world,” was released internationally last fall to critical acclaim. Songlines named Mariza its Best Artist for the year and called her album “not so much a reinvention as a bold expansion of her role as fado’s foremost global ambassador.
